Summer '16 Sunset Soiree

The HKS DC Alumni Council capped off Summer ’16 with an alumni community-wide sunset soiree on Sunday, August 14th. Hosted by HKS DC Alumni Council member Joelle Schmitz (MPP), the event was held poolside on the rooftop of downtown’s Residences at Market Square in the historic building that helps frame the U.S. Navy Memorial (next to the Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter Metro). Attendees had a perfect view from the roof of a beautiful sunset which illuminated views of the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, and most of the Smithsonian museums that line the National Mall. Guests were treated to live music by Allison Shapira (MC/MPA) and Jonathan Sonenfield, specialty cocktails designed by p

There is a 15-person elected team of Councilors who volunteer their time (with many others) to provide activities for alums. As a newly elected HKS Alumni Council settles in for 2016-17, we think that it is important to show what our alumni network has achieved in the last 12 months here in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. In 2015-16, 1,179 HKS alumni participated in 18 alumni activities in the D.C. metropolitan area. 50% of activities related to public policy, 33% to building our social networks, and 17% to career development. Networking Night brings alums back together, prospective students forward

HKS DC held a New Prospects Reception and Networking event on Monday, August 1st at FTI Consulting in Washington, DC. The objective was to provide an opportunity for prospective HKS students to obtain information on admissions and life in Cambridge, and to mix and mingle with alums for a ground-truth perspective from those who have lived the HKS experience. FTI Managing Director Raul Tapia, himself an alum of both HKS as well as Harvard Law School, opened the program, then introducing HKS Admissions Director Matt Clemons who made a presentation to not only answer the question, “Why Harvard?” but to also provide greater detail and differentiation between each HKS program, prerequisites, and
