On Thursday, April 14, more than 70 HKS alumni and guests gathered for a conversation with US Trade Representative Ambassador Michael Froman on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and related issues. The discussion was co-sponsored by Covington & Burling, which also hosted the event and reception at its beautiful CityCenter office. The audience included HKS Alumni from the 1960’s to 2015, as well as alumni from Harvard Law School and Business School. First Adaptive Leadership Practitioner Day 25 HKS alumni followed the invitation of the HKS DC Alumni Council and the Adaptive Leadership Shared Interest Group to refresh concepts from Professor Ronald Heifetz’s notorious “Exercising Leadership” class and to help each other out on their current leadership dilemmas. The group experienced an immediate sense of partnership and confidentiality from the very beginning, even though many members met for the first time. The participants ranged from alumni classes 1988 to 2015, the private and public sector, with both domestic and international focus, and all levels of seniority. New Harvard Kennedy School Admits met Old Admits (alumni) as 130 guests convened at the Atlantic Council in downtown DC to share ideas, experiences and information. HKS Office of Admissions Director Matt Clemons spoke about the unique and powerful access available to all HKS alumni. Steve Powell, President of the DC Alumni Council, confirmed this access and commented on his friendship with Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, a fellow HKSer. Others alums who made presentations included HKS International Alumni Board Members Wendy Pangburn (Chair), Chike Aguh, John Haederle and David Rosenberg. Emirates Leadership Initiative Dinner in D.C.

The Emirates Leadership Initiative (ELI) at HKS, funded graciously by the government of the United Arab Emirates, hosted a reception for ELI students and HKS alumni in the DC area who work in or on Middle East-related policy issues. People from a broad range of organizations, such as Human Rights Watch and independent consultancy companies, attended and enjoyed getting to know each other and the eight Arab students visiting from HKS. Many thanks to the Emirates Leadership Initiative for collaborating with the HKS DC Alumni Council to make this event possible.
