Launch of HKS DC Alumni Senior Executives Public Service Group

The inaugural meeting of KASE, the Kennedy School Alumni Senior Executives in DC, was held on March 30. Goals for KASE include engaging senior level HKS DC alumni in program activities, and leveraging our years of accumulated experience and expertise to address major local, national and global issues. The first meeting brought a great deal of interest and excitement in this new HKS DC Council project. Prior to the meeting, a survey of proposed KASE programming was sent to alumni. There were 67 respondents to the survey. The three leading areas of interest were a) pro-bono consulting for nonprofits, b) panels/roundtable discussions and c) working with AARP on senior career placement. Discuss

The HKS DC Alumni Council and co-host Forum One welcomed Congressman Gerry Connolly (MPA ‘79) and about 40 alums and guests for breakfast and conversation on Friday March 10, 2017. The Congressman represents the Virginia district near DC covering Fairfax and Prince William counties. Congressman Connolly is on several key committees in the House, including the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, where he serves as the Ranking Democrat of the Subcommittee on Government Operations. Congressman Connolly also serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and leads several caucuses. He spoke on current political topics, including the President's agenda and the budget and legisla

Extraordinary Experience Walking - behind the Scenes at the Kennedy Center

On Wednesday March 8th at the Kennedy Center, prior to a performance of 'Dead Man Walking' - a contemporary operatic interpretation of the 1993 account of a spiritual adviser supporting two men on Death Row - eight HKS alums were treated to a private, escorted behind the scenes tour by Washington National Opera Executive Director, Michael Mael. During the following 40-minute tour, he regaled the group with his rich insight and knowledge of the stage, the Kennedy Center, and what's involved in complicated productions. His descriptions were replete in details about the two contemporary operas that week - Dead Man Walking and The Champion - occasionally interrupting his description to greet and
