Summer '16 Sunset Soiree

The HKS DC Alumni Council capped off Summer ’16 with an alumni community-wide sunset soiree on Sunday, August 14th.

Hosted by HKS DC Alumni Council member Joelle Schmitz (MPP), the event was held poolside on the rooftop of downtown’s Residences at Market Square in the historic building that helps frame the U.S. Navy Memorial (next to the Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter Metro). Attendees had a perfect view from the roof of a beautiful sunset which illuminated views of the U.S. Capitol, Washington Monument, and most of the Smithsonian museums that line the National Mall.

Guests were treated to live music by Allison Shapira (MC/MPA) and Jonathan Sonenfield, specialty cocktails designed by professional mixologist Brian Acker Housman (BA)--and spouse of Stephanie Acker Housman (MC/MPA)--and a wide range of finger foods including barbecue chicken sliders, an array of dips and chips and delicious desserts including French Palmiers (Elephant Ears), coconut bites and fresh strawberries that could be dipped in the decadent chocolate fountain.

Braving the hot weather of DC's dog days of summer, more than 75 alums and friends attended, many volunteering their time and sweat equity to pull off this specialty event.
