HKS Boomers BOOM!

More than 40 Kennedy School Senior DC Alumni (KASE) gathered for their fall event at the Madrid Café in DuPont Circle on October 24. Featuring Shira Harrington, Founder and President of Purposeful Hire, and Elizabeth White, Harvard MBA and author of 55, Unemployed, and Faking Normal, alumni engaged in a lively conversation about finding jobs and new careers after 55. Harrington and White pointed out that many over 55 professionals want to continue working in an environment that is completely changed since Boomers joined the workforce.

The senior KSG DC area alumni were thrilled to reacquaint with classmates and friends after years in fast-paced careers around the globe in government, international development, nonprofit management, health and education. Many of the attendees are retired and seeking new adventures in community service as well as new careers, and they enjoyed the opportunity to refresh their networks. KASE organizers Henry Smith, Irina Kunovskaya and Liza Morris were thrilled with the turnout.

As a result of the Boomer gathering, KASE is considering the development of a senior alumni job/consulting network group. Details will follow. KASE organizes events and programs amongst the senior (over 55) DC alumni including professional networking, pro-bono consulting for nonprofits and mentoring of younger alums.
