Redistricting - The Achilles Heel of American Democracy?

The Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation at Harvard Kennedy School invited HKS DC alumni to join them in the Capitol's Rayburn Building for a special lunch conversation on redistricting reform, featuring members of the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, the winner of this year's Roy and Lila Ash Innovations Award for Public Engagement in Government.

The event included remarks by HKS Professor Archon Fung, and Michael Li, Senior Counsel at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law.

Professor Stephen Goldsmith, the Director of the Ash Center's Government Innovations Program presented Harvard's government innovation award to the commissioners of the California Citizens Redistricting Commission. The Ash Award for Public Engagement in Government aims to highlight government programs, policies, and initiatives that encourage public participation in a range of budgetary, regulatory, and policy decisions. The California Citizen Redistricting Commission's success in leveraging the power of citizen participation to reform the redistricting process in California earned it Harvard's top public engagement in government award and a matching $100,000 grand prize.
