Council Meets For the End of Year Celebration
The HKS DC Alumni Council held its last meeting of the year on Monday, December 12, 2016. The Council President Jayme Johnson chaired the meeting, attended by members and friends of the Council. The Council member, Yael Marciano, generously hosted the end year meeting and dinner.
During the meeting, the Council reviewed its activities and performance during the past year and discussed goals and upcoming projects for the next year. Councilors shared activity ideas that they would lead next year in order to bring a variety of events to the HKS community in DC. The participants expressed great satisfaction over last year's activities and the positive response they had received from the alumni community in D.C.
Four young musicians, Melissa Jones, Zahra Edwards, Pablo Ronderos and John Joire, from the D.C. Youth Orchestra Program performed at the party. In his letter of appreciation to Elizabeth Schurgin, Executive Director of D.C. Youth Orchestra Program, the Council President Jayme Johnson said: "We wanted to express how in awe we were of these four young people. We were blown away. Their proficiency, skill, passion, dedication and enjoyment shone through. They were confident and charming too."
The Council board members and friends also donated gifts to the Children’s Life Support Unit of the National Children’s Health System (NCHS) in Washington D.C. In his message to Katie Parrish of NCHS, Jayme Johnson said, "the HKS D.C. Alumni Community had always been grateful to them for providing world class clinical treatment and care for young patients and their families. But we are especially grateful this year because you and your colleagues have taken superb care of two young people very dear to two members of our Council. Thank you for everything you do."
