Kennedy Centered - HKS at the Kennedy Center

Harvard Kennedy School alums enjoyed an evening of great music and networking at the Kennedy Center on Saturday, March 12th.

Washington National Opera musicians Michelle Kim (violin), Igor Zubkovsky (cello)

and David Jones (clarinet) joined Russian pianist Irinia Koulikova and Maryam

Dimparast Malone playing the tar, a stringed instrument native to her home country of

Azerbaijan.

Performing on the Millennium Stage, this group played pieces by Brahms,

Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff as well as a Heifetz violin transcription of Gershwin’s

“It Ain’t Necessarily So” and traditional Azerbaijani folk music.

Afterwards, some of the musicians joined HKS alums upstairs at the Terrace

Restaurant and Bar to discuss the performance and to socialize. Councilors Allison Shapira and Lisa-Joy Zgorski were on hand to help “orchestrate” the evening while several Council friends including Claire O’Connor and Joey Wang attended. What a great evening.
